Blackstone Talent Group, an award-winning technology consulting and talent agency is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join our team at our client’s site in Colorado Springs, CO.

Core Responsibilities:

Software Engineer Portion (70% - 80% time):  

  • Create new applications based on customer requirements
  • Maintain and improve existing applications (bug fixes and new features)
  • Development and execution of test plans, procedures, and reports
  • Development of test tools
  • Development and creation of automated regression test suites
  • Gather requirements from business stakeholders
  • Create and maintain application solution documentation

Engineer Manager Portion (20% - 30% time):

  • Support experienced software team members
  • Mentor new-to-the field software engineers
  • Create and maintain a culture of collaboration where diverse ideas are explored, and healthy disagreement is leveraged to produce superior solutions
  • Create technical task forecasts and develop level-of-effort estimates for program management; identify software development costs/investments for projects
  • Generate individual work scopes and delegate tasking to the software team
  • Participate in strategic planning with peer departments and division leadership to develop and grow software core competencies (identify needs/skills, author job descriptions, hire new staff)
  • Perform periodic and annual software staff performance reviews


  • Bachelor' s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years’ experience in Software Engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience in Engineering Management
  • Knowledge of C++ and C# 
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Understanding of testing methodologies
  • Understanding of Git/SVN and basic version control principles
  • Unit Testing Tools Google Test and/or QTest and/or CPPUnit; Code quality tools cppCheck and pylint
  • Experience with third-party libraries and software using API
  • Experience with MySQL and MS SQL
  • Must have strong knowledge of C++ OOPs concepts
  • Understanding of UI design and user-oriented focus
  • Experience with test automation suites (Jenkins)
  • Knowledge of Java/Perl languages
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux environments 
  • Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies
  • Good knowledge and project experience on development and maintenance of multithreaded C++ applications
  • Must have worked on Windows socket programming and multithreading
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Must possess good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance
  • US Citizenship required
  • Light physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Knowledge of PHP and HTML/JS
  • Experience with Doxygen
  • Knowledge of performance testing
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs
